RI-BHOI : The sudden death of a 27-year-old woman from Umkaduh village in Ri-Bhoi district has left her family shocked and raised questions over the circumstances surrounding her death after she was found dead while staying in Maroit village in Eastern West Khasi Hills district.
According to information from family members and the local village headman, the deceased has been identified as Kong Sperly Syngkli, a mother of two.
Family members said Sperly had travelled with her husband, Kursur Mawlong, to Maroit village on Saturday.
However, on Monday morning, her family received the news that she had died suddenly.
The family said Sperly had appeared to be healthy and strong when she left home, leaving them shocked and concerned about what may have led to her sudden death.
Her body was subsequently brought back to Umkaduh along with her husband. However, according to her family, her husband and some other relatives did not stay to take part in the final funeral rites and instead returned, further raising questions among the deceased woman’s family members.
Bah Mekhal Syngkli, the deceased woman’s maternal uncle, and Bah Phaintis Synkli, the village headman, described the incident as shocking, particularly the absence of her husband during the final rites.
The family has informed the Ri-Bhoi police about the matter and requested a thorough investigation to establish the circumstances and actual cause of her death.
On Thursday, the woman’s body was taken to Civil Hospital Nongpoh for a post-mortem examination. The examination is expected to help determine the exact cause of death.
The family is awaiting the post-mortem findings as police look into the circumstances surrounding the woman’s sudden death.
