The District Magistrate, East Khasi Hills District has issued a prohibitory order under Section 163 BNSS prohibiting plying of overloaded hay-laden trucks /pickup trucks across the city of Shillong.

The order is necessitated in view of the report received that plying of overloaded hay-laden trucks/pickup trucks poses a significant safety hazard and may contact with electric wires, which may result in a major fire incident. Besides, hay falling from these trucks is littering the roads in the localities, creating a nuisance and undermining the efforts of the annual cleaning drive of the localities.

Any violation to this order shall be prosecuted under Section 223 of the BNS.

The Order comes into force with immediate effect and shall remain in force until further orders.
