On 15.02.24 due to vigorous patrolling by police in the city, at about 4.50 am, the Sadar PS patrol party came across three persons who came in a Swift tourist taxi no ML 04 C 7163 to Keating Road and attempted to steal a scooty No ML O5 AC 8352 by cutting and joining the ignition wire .One person, Shri Ribellang Phyllei 25yrs r/o Biar, Block Laskein WJH who was the driver of the Swift was caught while the other two managed to flee taking advantage of the darkness.The checkpoint at Mawryngkneng however intercepted the other two, Empyrkhat Dhar 21 yrs r/o Saphai WJH and Steven Syngkon 19 yrs r/o Iaw Thymme WJH who were fleeing towards WestJaintia Hills. Items recovered and seized from their possession are two nos of helmets, two plastic bottles filled with petrol, two sets of screw drivers, one set of spanners of different sizes, one Allen Wrench, one T- Hand Hex key, one T- Handle Torx Key , cash Rs6100and three mobile phones . A case vide Sadar PS Case No 46(2)2025. U/s 305(b)/324(4)/111(2)(b)/3(5) of BNS has been registered. Their involvement in many other cases where bike theft is rampant is not ruled out.
