SHILLONG : The death toll from the coal mine explosion at Thangkso in Meghalaya’s East Jaintia Hills district has climbed to 27, following the recovery of two more bodies from the site, officials confirmed on Friday.
According to the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA), search and rescue operations are still underway to trace any remaining victims trapped in the blast-hit area.
The Executive Director of the SDMA stated that nine injured persons are currently undergoing treatment in hospital, while rescue teams continue their efforts amid challenging conditions at the site.
Authorities said all necessary medical assistance is being provided to the injured, and efforts remain focused on completing the recovery operation and ensuring support for affected families.
