Shillong : In one of the largest drug seizures in Meghalaya, the Meghalaya Police Anti-Narcotics Task Force recovered heroin and crystal methamphetamine worth about ₹51.13 crore during a naka check in East Jaintia Hills.
The operation was carried out at the Ratacherra checkpoint where police stopped a Tata Sumo bearing registration number MZ-01-M-8625 carrying two passengers and a driver.
During the search, police recovered 19 plastic soap cases containing 203.7 grams of suspected heroin from a female passenger. Authorities also found 10.145 kilograms of suspected crystal methamphetamine inside a blue trolley bag belonging to another passenger.
According to police, the total value of the seized drugs in the illegal market is estimated at ₹51.13 crore, making it one of the biggest NDPS hauls in the state by value.
Officials said preliminary findings indicate that the suspects could be linked to a larger inter-state and cross-border drug trafficking network.
A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, and investigators are now working to trace both the source and destination of the drugs as part of the ongoing probe.
