Shillong : Conrad K. Sangma, Chief Minister of Meghalaya, on Friday reflected on the eight-year journey of the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government, saying the real success of development lies in improving people’s daily lives.
Speaking at the “Our Magnificent Meghalaya | Vision 2032” programme held at PA Sangma Sports Complex in Tura, the Chief Minister acknowledged that the government’s journey since 2018 had been filled with challenges but credited the support of citizens for helping overcome them.
Sangma said that while infrastructure projects such as roads, schools and new government buildings are important, the most meaningful achievement is when government initiatives bring real change to people’s lives.
He explained that development can be of three types — development people hear about through announcements, development they can see through infrastructure, and development they can truly feel when their lives improve through better healthcare, education and livelihood opportunities.
The Chief Minister also called for unity among communities, stressing that hatred between tribes can never solve problems and that Meghalaya must continue moving forward through cooperation and dialogue.
During the programme, the government also distributed financial assistance worth around ₹220 crore to beneficiaries under various welfare schemes. The Chief Minister also launched the Chief Minister’s Scholarship Scheme for 2025–26, benefiting nearly 98,751 students, along with other initiatives supporting farmers, entrepreneurs and community development.
The event was attended by several senior leaders including Deputy Chief Ministers Prestone Tynsong and Sniawbhalang Dhar, Speaker Thomas A. Sangma, and cabinet ministers including Timothy D. Shira and Marcuise N. Marak.
