A 15-year-old boy from Assam lost his life after drowning in a water body popularly known as Blue Dam at Baridua 9th Mile in Ri-Bhoi district, Meghalaya. The tragic incident occurred yesterday afternoon while the teenager had gone to swim with his friends.
According to information gathered from local sources, the incident took place at around 3 pm. The deceased has been identified as Md. Shamshad (15), son of Md. Ayub Alam, residents of Satgaon in Kamrup district, Assam. He had reportedly gone to the location along with two friends to swim and relax.
It is learnt that the water body is actually an abandoned stone quarry that has filled with clear water over time and has now become a popular spot where many people visit for swimming and leisure. Locally, the place is widely known as Blue Dam.
However, while they were swimming, the boy suddenly drowned in the deep water. His friends along with some people present at the spot immediately attempted to rescue him and bring him out of the water.
The teenager was then rushed to Guwahati Metro Hospital for medical treatment. Unfortunately, doctors declared him brought dead before arrival at the hospital.
Following the incident, police from Khanapara Police Station took custody of the body. Today, the body was taken to Civil Hospital Nongpoh for post-mortem examination.
After the completion of the necessary legal formalities and investigation, and as no foul play was detected, the police later handed over the body to the family members of the deceased.
