SHILLONG : In a swift breakthrough, West Jaintia Hills Police recovered two stolen scooties from Pdengshakap village and detained five individuals, including four minors, in connection with separate theft cases reported on April 23 in Jowai.
According to Addl. SP (DSB) Crescency W Lyngdoh, the investigation began after police received telephonic information from Wanphida O. Laloo of Ummulong, reporting the theft of his scooty (ML-05 W-6877) from the premises of Ialong Civil Hospital.
Acting promptly, police analyzed CCTV footage and identified a suspected vehicle, leading to intensive patrolling operations. The vehicle was eventually intercepted, and its five occupants were taken to the Phramer Traffic Cell in West Jaintia Hills District for questioning. Among those detained, four were minors.
During interrogation, one child in conflict with law disclosed that the stolen scooty had been taken to Pdengshakap village. A police team immediately proceeded to the location and successfully recovered the vehicle following due legal procedures.
On the same day, another complaint was lodged by Bastanroy Mawthoh of Nongmensong, Langkyrding, regarding the theft of his Yamaha Ray ZR (ML-05 AF-5040), which was stolen around 2:30 AM. Police confirmed that this scooty was also recovered from the same village.
Both recovered vehicles have been secured at the Phramer Traffic Cell for necessary legal action.
Police have urged citizens to remain vigilant and ensure proper security of their vehicles. Any suspicious activity should be reported immediately to the nearest police station or via emergency helpline number 112.
