SHILLONG : In a proud achievement for Meghalaya, Nandini Ishvi O Sangma has been selected to represent India at the 13th Commonwealth Youth Parliament (CYP13) scheduled to be held in Sydney, Australia from July 26 to July 31, 2026.
Nandini will represent the country along with five other delegates from different parts of India at the prestigious international programme, which brings together young participants aged between 18 and 29 from Commonwealth nations.
The Commonwealth Youth Parliament is a week-long parliamentary simulation and leadership training programme aimed at developing future leaders and aspiring public representatives through discussions on governance, parliamentary procedures and democratic practices.
A Political Science student of Don Bosco College, Tura, Nandini earned recognition after being adjudged the “Best Speaker” during the first-ever Youth Parliament in Garo Hills.
The Youth Parliament programme was sponsored and organised by the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly in collaboration with Tura Christian College and was held at the District Auditorium in Tura on March 2 and 3, 2026.
The programme witnessed participation from young students and aspiring leaders who engaged in simulated parliamentary debates and discussions on public policy and governance.
Nandini’s selection to represent India at the Commonwealth-level event is being seen as a significant achievement not only for Garo Hills but also for Meghalaya, highlighting the growing participation of youth from the state in national and international leadership platforms.
The Commonwealth Youth Parliament provides exposure and training to young leaders through interactive parliamentary sessions, debates and leadership exercises involving delegates from across Commonwealth countries.
