NONGPOH : The Nongpoh Region Auto Owners’ and Drivers’ Association (NRAO&DA) on Tuesday submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner of Ri-Bhoi District, expressing serious concern over the rising prices of petrol and diesel as well as the increasing operation of auto-rickshaws from Assam within various parts of the district.
The delegation was led by the Association’s President, Bah Banasar Lyngdoh, along with Vice-President Bah Tony Shylla and Secretary Bah Felix Nongsiej.
Speaking to reporters after meeting the district authorities, Bah Tony Shylla said the continuous increase in petrol and diesel prices has placed a heavy burden on auto owners and drivers who depend entirely on the profession to support their families.
He further pointed out that differences in fuel prices among petrol pumps across the district have created confusion and concern among vehicle operators. The Association also expressed suspicion that irregularities may be involved in the pricing of fuel at certain petrol pumps.
Another major issue raised before the Deputy Commissioner was the unrestricted entry and operation of auto-rickshaws from Assam within Ri-Bhoi District. The Association alleged that the growing number of out-of-state auto-rickshaws has severely affected the earnings of local drivers who rely solely on the transport sector for their livelihood.
The Association urged the district administration to look into both issues and take appropriate measures to safeguard the interests of local auto drivers and ensure transparency in fuel pricing across the district.
