Shillong : Football lovers in Meghalaya are set for a unique World Cup experience as the state government launches the Chief Minister’s Football Fan-Park at the S.R.G.T Parking Lot in Polo, Shillong, from June 26.
The initiative aims to transform the city into a vibrant football hub by providing free live screenings of selected FIFA World Cup 2026 matches on a giant screen. Entry to the fan park will be completely free, allowing football enthusiasts, families and visitors to enjoy the tournament atmosphere together.
According to officials, matches scheduled at 9:30 PM, 10:30 PM and 12:30 AM will be screened live to accommodate local viewing preferences.
Adding to the excitement, the fan park will also feature live performances by artists under the Chief Minister’s Meghalaya Grassroots Music Program (CM-MGMP), creating a month-long celebration that combines football, music and community engagement.
The Department of Tourism said the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to creating dynamic public spaces that celebrate sports, culture and unity while showcasing local talent.
The fan park is also aligned with Meghalaya’s broader vision of strengthening its football ecosystem, including plans to develop what is expected to become the country’s largest football stadium at Mawkhnau.
By converting a public parking area into a dedicated World Cup viewing zone, the government hopes to bring the excitement of the global tournament closer to the people and reinforce Meghalaya’s reputation as one of India’s strongest football-loving states.
Football fans are encouraged to visit the venue from June 26 and be part of Shillong’s state-led FIFA World Cup 2026 celebration.
