JORABAT : Heavy rainfall on Wednesday led to severe flooding in the Jorabat area, particularly beneath the flyover, once again exposing the long-standing drainage problem that continues to affect the locality during the monsoon season.
Following hours of continuous rain, floodwater submerged several stretches of the National Highway, resulting in massive traffic congestion and leaving hundreds of vehicles stranded.
The flooding also affected several roadside shops and nearby residential areas. A number of vehicles were partially submerged and swept away by the strong flow of water.
Residents said flooding at Jorabat has become a recurring problem every monsoon due to inadequate drainage infrastructure. They urged the authorities to take immediate and long-term measures to address the issue by widening and improving the drainage system.
The locals stressed that unless permanent solutions are implemented, the area will continue to face severe flooding and traffic disruptions every rainy season.
