NONGPOH : In a bid to strengthen village security and maintain peace, the Dorbar Shnong of Mawsyntai on Friday organised the oath-taking ceremony for the newly elected office bearers and members of the Village Defence Party (VDP) at the village’s Dorbar Hall.
The oath was administered by Kenneth Nongsiej, an officer from Nongpoh Police Station, in the presence of village leaders and police officials from Ri-Bhoi district.
During the ceremony, Finningstar Lyngdoh was formally inducted as the President of the Mawsyntai VDP, while Danial Robert Sylliang assumed charge as the Secretary. In addition, 15 members took the oath, pledging to work together to maintain peace, ensure public safety and prevent criminal activities within the village.
The programme was attended by Rangbah Shnong Elevenson Makdoh, Secretary Arun Lyngdoh, and other senior members of the Dorbar Shnong.
Addressing the gathering, Kenneth Nongsiej urged the newly inducted VDP members to discharge their responsibilities with dedication and integrity. He said the role of the VDP extends beyond safeguarding the village, stressing that its members should work closely with the Meghalaya Police and the Dorbar Shnong to curb crime and ensure a safe and peaceful environment for the community.
