RI BHOI : Hours of incessant rainfall overnight triggered flash floods and landslides across parts of Ri Bhoi district, forcing several families to flee their homes as rising floodwaters inundated residential areas in Umling and Umladoh.
Residents said they had to leave their homes in the middle of the night as floodwaters rapidly entered bedrooms, kitchens and other parts of their houses, damaging household belongings and leaving behind thick layers of mud.
Videos from the affected areas showed the road connecting Umling and Patharkhmah transformed into a fast-flowing river. Floodwaters submerged roads and nearby houses, while landslides at several locations blocked traffic, making the route impassable for vehicles.
In Umling, many families spent Monday morning cleaning their homes, removing mud deposits and draining floodwater that had entered nearly every room.
The overnight downpour caused widespread disruption in the area, with residents assessing the damage as floodwaters gradually receded.
