UMLING : Hours of incessant rainfall on Monday morning caused severe flooding at the Umling Health and Wellness Centre, leaving medicines, medical equipment, official records and other essential items extensively damaged.
Floodwater entered every room of the government-run health facility, submerging offices and treatment areas. Videos from the centre showed furniture, documents and medical equipment floating in water, while the maternity room was also affected.
Speaking to Meghalaya Daily, Nurse In-charge R. Ronghang said this was the first time the health centre had experienced flooding of such magnitude.
She said the sudden influx of water caused extensive damage to essential medical equipment, important records and other materials required for the day-to-day functioning of the health facility.
The flooding has disrupted normal operations at the centre, raising concerns over the availability of healthcare services for residents in the area.
The extent of the losses is yet to be officially assessed.
