SHILLONG : Students concerned over repeated incidents of examination question paper leaks staged a protest at Laitumkrah Police Beat House in Shillong, expressing solidarity with students who have been protesting at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi.
The protest in Laitumkrah was also aimed at highlighting concerns over examination paper leaks, particularly in major examinations such as the NEET and other competitive examinations related to recruitment for various posts.
The students held placards and expressed their opposition to the Government of India over the alleged manner in which authorities handled the student protest at Jantar Mantar. They also criticised the alleged use of force and lathi-charge against protesters, saying that force should not be used as a response to the genuine demands of students.
The protesters demanded justice and urged the authorities to take serious steps to address issues affecting the future of students instead of using force against those raising their voices.
They also called for stronger measures to prevent examination paper leaks and ensure that students are able to appear for examinations in a fair, transparent and corruption-free environment.
Children also participated in the protest at Laitumkrah, along with the students. The organisers said that children represent the future of the country and the community, and therefore, issues affecting education and the lives and future of students must be taken seriously.
