SHILLONG : UDP leader and West Shillong MLA Paul Lyngdoh on Wednesday called for a parliamentary party meeting to discuss and resolve grievances raised by legislators, amid reports of internal differences within the regional party.
Lyngdoh said discussions are already underway within the United Democratic Party (UDP), stressing that internal debates are a normal part of political organisations.
“There are rumblings in almost every political party but those are being debated and discussed as we speak,” he said.
He said the immediate priority should be to maintain unity and strengthen relations within the party.
“The focus is on strengthening the bonding within the party,” Lyngdoh added.
UDP council seeks immediate meeting
According to Lyngdoh, the party council believes that concerns raised by UDP MLAs should be taken up without delay.
“The view of the council is that the party president should immediately call a parliamentary party meeting and discuss all grievances aired by the MLAs in the party,” he said.
His remarks come amid reports of differences among some UDP legislators and speculation about the future direction of the party.
Lyngdoh stays silent on BJP speculation
Asked about speculation that some UDP members could join the BJP, Lyngdoh said he was not in a position to comment.
“I have only heard rumours but I am not in a position to comment since I don’t have much information,” he said.
Lyngdoh maintained that the focus should remain on strengthening unity within the UDP as internal discussions continue.
