SHILLONG : The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) will take a decision on the Meghalaya Government’s invitation for talks at an emergency meeting of its Central Executive Council (CEC) on Tuesday, August 25.
KSU Assistant General Secretary Pynshaiborlang Rani said the Union came to know about the government’s invitation through media reports on Monday morning and received the official letter only around 11 pm to midnight.
He said the short notice made it difficult for the KSU to immediately convene its leaders from different districts, including West Khasi Hills, South West Khasi Hills, East Jaintia Hills, West Jaintia Hills and Ri-Bhoi.
According to Rani, the matter will therefore be placed before the emergency CEC meeting, where the Union will discuss and decide its response to the government’s invitation.
Earlier on Monday, the KSU organised a flag-hoisting ceremony and prayer at its office in Jaiaw, Shillong, in the presence of former leaders of the organisation.
The programme was held days after the KSU office was allegedly vandalised during the police action on August 19.
The flag-hoisting and prayer were aimed at reaffirming the organisation’s resolve and commitment amid the ongoing developments involving the KSU and the state government.
