SHILLONG : Police in East Khasi Hills, accompanied by magistrates and representatives of the Tourism Department, on Wednesday removed the locks put up by the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) at the Shillong Ropeway Project site in Madan Laban.
The locks had been imposed by the KHADC on October 27, 2026, at the Lower Terminal Point of the ropeway project, as well as at the office of the company executing the project.
The police action was reportedly carried out following directions from higher authorities to remove the locks imposed by the KHADC.
According to information available, the police removed only the locks put up by the District Council. However, there was no clarity on whether any other action would be taken at the site.
A significant police presence was also witnessed at the location to prevent any possible resistance or untoward incidents during the operation.
