SHILLONG : Representatives of the Khasi Jaintia Deficit School Teachers Association (KJDSTA) and the Garo Hills Deficit School Teachers and Employees Association on Wednesday met Commissioner and Secretary of the Education Department Vijay Kumar Mantri, expressing concern over the public notice issued by the department regarding the implementation of the Pension Scheme 2026 for deficit teachers.
The meeting, held on November 4, 2026, followed the publication of the notice through the media, which the associations said was issued without prior consultation with the teachers who would be directly affected by the scheme.
After the meeting, KJDSTA president Borewel Pala said teachers had held several rounds of discussions with the government on various issues, but questioned the manner in which the latest notice was issued.
He said the associations had submitted a memorandum to the Education Department, urging the government to address the pending issues and ensure that teachers were not subjected to further difficulties.
Pala emphasised that teachers should be allowed to concentrate on their primary responsibility of educating students and safeguarding their future rather than having to deal with unresolved administrative issues related to the pension scheme.
