In the wee hours of 04 Oct 2022, alert troops of BSF Meghalaya rescued 16 cattle from the bordering area of East Khasi Hills which were meant to be smuggled to Bangladesh. BSF also confiscated 03 vehicles in which these cattle were found crammed mercilessly.
To put effective check on illegal transportation of cattle and other contraband items towards the border areas, BSF Meghalaya has started laying Mobile Check Posts (MCPs) at ventage points on vulnerable routes leading to International Border of East Khasi Hills, West Jaintia Hills and East Jaintia Hills of Meghalaya.
BSF is dominating the border area dedicatedly and adhering all legal protocols. Smuggling of cattle has significantly come down after placement of these Mobile Check Posts. Since MCPs have been successful in curbing smuggling of cattle, drugs, narcotics and other contraband items to a great extent, lobby of smugglers have been instigating people at some places to raise voice against BSF MCPs so that they can continue with their smuggling activities.
