The Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Secretariat observed its pre-Christmas prayer service and celebration today at its Administrative Block in Khyndailad, Shillong.
The Commissioner & Secretary, Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, Dr Andrew Simons, presented the welcome speech. He welcomed the Hon’ble Speaker, Shri Thomas A Sangma, Deputy Speaker, Shri Timothy D Shira, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, Deputy Chief Ministers Prestone Tynsong and Sniawbhalang Dhar, Cabinet Ministers, MLAs, Former Speakers and Ex MLAs, officials and staff of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Secretariat. In his welcome speech, he wished everyone joy, health and happiness.
During the celebration, Hon’ble Speaker, Shri Thomas A Sangma, conveyed warm greetings and heartfelt wishes as the festive spirit of Christmas draws near. ‘In the midst of our legislative responsibilities and duties, I felt that it is important to take a moment to celebrate the blessings of the season and the significance of unity and goodwill,’ he said.
The Hon’ble Deputy Speaker, Shri Timothy D Shira, conveyed his warm greetings to everyone, emphasizing the significance of Christmas as a pivotal day for Christians.
The Hon’ble Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma, expressed his gratitude to the Meghalaya Assembly Speaker and the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Secretariat for organizing the pre-Christmas celebration and prayer service.
Reverend Lyndan Syiem delivered the Christmas Message and guided the prayer session, reflecting on the birth of Jesus Christ in his address.
The pre-Christmas prayer service featured captivating performances by the children of AW Thomas Girl’s Home and Mawkyrwat MLA, Shri Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar, who presented special numbers, adding an enchanting touch to the occasion.
Melodious Christmas Carols, enriched with a traditional touch, resonated through the air as the St. Cecilia Choir of the Laitumkhrah Parish Cathedral, the oldest choir in the Archdiocese of Shillong, showcased their musical prowess.
During the festivities, the Hon’ble Speaker presented gifts to the children of AW Thomas Girl’s Home.
