The district administration of East Khasi Hills has issued an order under Section 163 BNSS, prohibiting deliberate and unattended burning of forests in the district.
The order aims to prevent wildfires and protect the environment, public safety, and human lives.
According to the order issued by the district magistrate RM Kurbah on Thursday, there have been instances of deliberate and rampant burning of forests, leading to wildfires and environmental degradation.
The ban is effective immediately and will remain in force until further notice.
Violators will be prosecuted under Section 223 of the BNS
The move is part of efforts to safeguard the region’s biodiversity and prevent potential disasters.
The public has been urged to cooperate, and authorities have warned that any violation of the order will be dealt with strictly.
