SHILLONG : Shillong Police has made elaborate security and traffic arrangements ahead of Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s two-day visit to the city on October 4 and 5.
East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem said on Thursday that detailed traffic advisories would be issued by the SP (Traffic) to inform commuters about routes to avoid and timings during the visit.
He said meticulous planning has been carried out with particular focus on traffic management, as the movement of vehicles remains one of the major concerns during the high-profile visit.
According to Syiem, the police have also mobilised tactical teams and personnel from different units as part of the security arrangements.
Around 1,500 police personnel will be deployed during the visit, with security arrangements put in place along the various routes and locations connected with the programme.
Amit Shah is scheduled to visit Shillong to confer the prestigious Presidential Colours on Meghalaya Police.
Syiem described the recognition as a matter of pride and achievement for Meghalaya Police, noting that the force is among the few police organisations in the Northeast to have received the honour.
He attributed the achievement to the sacrifice, integrity and dedication of police personnel in their service.
Syiem further said Meghalaya Police would continue its efforts to provide better service to the public and ensure that policing reaches a high level of professionalism, service delivery and integrity.
Meanwhile, commuters in Shillong are expected to receive detailed traffic advisories ahead of the visit to help them plan their movement and avoid routes that may experience restrictions or diversions during the VIP movement.
