On 18th August 2023, acting on specific info, troops of 4 Bn BSF Meghalaya seized 220 bottles of Phensedyl from the International Border of East Khasi Hills district while being smuggled from India to Bangladesh. The seized Phensedyl were further handed over to concern authority for further necessary action.

It is a codeine-based cough syrup used as a substitute for liquor, which is strictly prohibited in the neighboring country Bangladesh. Since January 2023, BSF Meghalaya seized more than 1300 bottles of Phensedyl while being crossed through the International Border.
