In a major anti-drug operation, the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) of East Jaintia Hills District Police intercepted an oil tanker and arrested four persons, seizing heroin worth approximately Rs 20 lakh.
According to Superintendent of Police Vikash Kumar, the operation was carried out based on specific and credible intelligence inputs.
“Based on credible intelligence, the ANTF conducted a coordinated naka operation at Umkiang Police Patrol Post, during which an oil tanker bearing registration number AS-11 DC-1200 was intercepted and four persons were apprehended,” the SP said.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Shymal Boro, Matab Uddin, Ataur Rohman, and Biren Singha, all residents of Assam.
Police said the accused are suspected to be part of a larger organised inter-state drug trafficking network operating across the region.
During the search, the ANTF recovered 45.5 grams of heroin concealed in four soap boxes, along with four mobile phones, from their possession.
A case has been registered at Lumshnong Police Station under relevant sections of the NDPS Act, and further investigation is underway to trace the forward and backward linkages of the drug syndicate.
