Shillong : The Department of Arts and Culture Meghalaya has commenced a two-day workshop on Eco-Friendly Bamboo Craft: Weaving and Carving Techniques at the Arts and Culture Hall in Shillong.

The workshop is being organised by the Department of Arts and Culture Meghalaya and is funded by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs. The programme began on March 24 and will continue until March 25, 2026.

The primary objective of the workshop is to promote eco-friendly bamboo crafts while preserving traditional weaving and carving techniques that are an integral part of Meghalaya’s cultural heritage. It also aims to encourage sustainable practices and environmentally conscious craftsmanship.

Additionally, the workshop seeks to provide a platform for artisans and participants to enhance their skills and explore bamboo-based livelihood opportunities, which hold strong potential for economic growth in Meghalaya and across Northeast India.
