A delegation of the Estimates Committee of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly conducted a spot inspection in Ri-Bhoi District on 18th August 2025.

The delegation was led by Shri Mayralborn Syiem, MLA (Nongpoh) and Chairman of the Committee on Estimates, accompanied by Committee Members Shri Wailadmiki Shylla (Jowai), Shri Remington Gabil Momin (Rambrai Jyrngam), Shri Charles Marngar (Mawhati), and Shri Adelbert Nongrum (North Shillong). The Local MLA of Umsning, Dr. Celestine Lyngdoh, also joined the team during the inspection at Umsning.

Officials from the PWD, PHE, Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, and other line departments were present during the inspection.

The visit included inspections of the Industrial Training Institute (ITI) at Nongkhrah, the Nongpoh Polytechnic, and the under-construction office of the Block Development Officer at Umsning C&RD Block.

After the inspection, Shri Mayralborn Syiem, Chairman of the Committee, stated:

“We are privileged to conduct this inspection through the Estimates Committee of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly. Our main objective was to follow up on the ongoing construction of the Block Development Officer’s office at the Umsning C&RD Block. This project has been pending for a long time, and the Committee observed several issues causing the delay.

We conducted a thorough site inspection and received a detailed briefing from officials of the Community and Rural Development Department. The Committee has directed the concerned contractor to complete the work by November 2025, a timeline committed by the contractor and officials.

We hope that with regular monitoring and the government’s aspiration to complete all C&RD Block offices across the State on time, this project will soon be operational. Once completed, the office will provide improved services to the public, including headmen, Village Organisations (VOs), NGOs, and Self-Help Groups.”

He further added:

“Today, we also inspected the ongoing construction of the ITI at Nongkhrah and the Nongpoh Polytechnic. The Polytechnic project is progressing well and is expected to be completed in the coming months, which will benefit students through various technical courses.

However, the ITI project has faced delays due to issues such as approach road construction, external electrification, and water supply. The Committee has taken note of these challenges and will pursue them with the concerned departments to ensure the project becomes functional at the earliest.”

Key Directives

Umsning C&RD Block Office: To be completed by November 2025.
