UMSNING, RI-BHOI: A truck carrying rice for the Food Corporation of India (FCI) caught fire suddenly at Umsning Bypass in Ri-Bhoi district on Wednesday evening.
The truck, bearing registration number AS 01 FC 8674, was being driven by Farijul Hoque and was reportedly transporting FCI rice to Jowai when the incident occurred.
According to information gathered, the fire broke out at around 5:30 PM while the truck was travelling along the Umsning Bypass.
The fire is suspected to have been caused by an issue with the vehicle’s electrical wiring. However, the exact cause of the fire has not yet been officially confirmed.
Soon after receiving information about the incident, personnel from the Umiam Fire & Emergency Services rushed to the spot and launched firefighting operations to prevent the flames from spreading to other parts of the vehicle.
Although the fire damaged a significant portion of the truck, no injuries or casualties were reported in the incident.
However, the truck reportedly suffered extensive damage due to the fire.
Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the exact cause of the incident.
