Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD) Node, Meghalaya conducted field training on propagation and cultivation of Swertia chirayita (Chirayita) and Gaultheria fragrantissima (Fragrant Wintergreen; locally known as Jathynrait & Lathynrait) on August 09, 2023 under Himalayan Bioresource Mission at Mawbeh, East Khasi Hills District, Meghalaya. In this training program, agro-technics, cultivation, raising, market linkage and support explained to the farmers of Mawbeh by slide presentation followed by field demonstration of agri-practices. On this occasion field equipment like secateurs, gumboots, billhook, water cane, spade, khurpy & shovel along with saplings of Chirayita and Jathynrait distributed to the farmers. IBSD is regularly organising a series of such programmes to promote local traditional medicinal plants propagation, cultivation aiming for livelihood generation. Under the Himalayan Bioresources Mission, various programs are initiated related to advanced research focusing on agriculture, horticulture, medicinal & aromatic plants and microbial resources, while taking up translational research for societal development. The training program initiatives at IBSD node Meghalaya is led by Prof. Pulok K. Mukherjee, Director of the Institute. A series of activities have been planned during the forthcoming time.
