SHILLONG : A volunteer, P.S. Lyngdoh, has filed a First Information Report (FIR) with Sadar Police, alleging that a man fraudulently collected money from several youths in Meghalaya by promising them jobs.
The FIR was lodged on Wednesday following allegations that the accused, identified by the complainant as Willy Thangkiew, had been promising employment opportunities in exchange for large sums of money.
Speaking to reporters, Lyngdoh alleged that, based on information available to him, the accused had been collecting money from indigenous youths while assuring them of jobs in various sectors, including government departments, contract-based employment and private security services.
He further alleged that the accused demanded amounts ranging from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh from job seekers in return for securing employment.
According to Lyngdoh, the alleged fraud has caused severe financial hardship to several affected families, many of whom reportedly paid substantial amounts in the hope of securing jobs for their children.
He urged the police to conduct a thorough investigation into the allegations and take appropriate legal action.
The allegations mentioned in the FIR have not been independently verified, and the accused has not publicly responded to the claims at the time of publishing. The matter is now subject to police investigation.
