Cabinet Minister and BJP leader Sanbor Shullai on Thursday urged the people of Garo Hills to give the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) an opportunity in the upcoming Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) elections, citing large-scale development initiatives undertaken by the Central government.
Highlighting the progress made under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, Shullai said significant changes have been witnessed over the past decade, both across the country and in Meghalaya.
“We have seen within a short span of 10 years, whether in the entire country or in Meghalaya, due to the support of Prime Minister Modi and Union Ministers, there has been visible development. If people compare what was happening 46 years ago and what is happening now, the difference is clear. Since the formation of MDA I and II, many developmental schemes have been implemented, especially in road communication, highways, and infrastructure projects, including in my constituency and New Shillong,” Shullai said.
He stressed that the BJP’s core focus has been on development, particularly in improving road connectivity, highways, and other infrastructure projects.
Expressing confidence ahead of the district council elections, Shullai said the BJP is hopeful of winning 8 to 10 seats, while appealing to voters to give the party at least 20 seats to enable it to form the Executive Committee in the GHADC.
“Regarding ideology, let the people judge. But my message is clear—the people of our state should be farsighted and look at the good work done by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the government in Delhi. In the upcoming district council elections, I appeal especially to the voters of Garo Hills—our brothers, sisters, senior citizens, and youth—to give the BJP a chance,” he said.
Shullai assured that if given the mandate, the BJP-led Executive Committee would prioritise development and employment generation for the youth. He also highlighted a recent employment initiative under which 3,000 youths will be recruited into the police department.
He further informed that the BJP is in the process of identifying suitable candidates and aims to contest a majority of seats in the GHADC elections.
“As an MLA, once the party gives the green signal, I will visit every constituency and campaign aggressively for our candidates,” Shullai added.
