SHILLONG, JAN 21: The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) has clarified its position regarding the death of a drug addict, with General Secretary Isaac Basaiawmoit stating that the organisation is being falsely implicated in the matter.
Basaiawmoit was summoned by Sadar police in connection with the case, but he emphasized that there is no mention of HYC in the FIR.
“Some people are instigating and alleging our involvement, likely due to jealousy over our activities,” Basaiawmoit said.
According to reports, the police have assured HYC leadership that there is no evidence linking the organisation to the assault that led to the victim’s death.
The incident occurred at MUDA on November 23, 2025, and the victim passed away at Nazareth Hospital on December 4, 2025.
Basaiawmoit further alleged that certain individuals are misleading the victim’s family in an attempt to pin the blame on HYC.
He added, “We’ll meet the family members later,” noting that the investigation is still ongoing.
