SHILLONG, JAN 26: The ICFAI University Meghalaya marked the 77th Republic Day of India on Monday with great enthusiasm and patriotic spirit at its campus.
The programme began with the hoisting of the National Tricolour, followed by the National Anthem, creating an atmosphere of pride and solemnity. Addressing the gathering, Vice Chancellor Dr. Alicia Gatphoh highlighted the historic importance of January 26, the day on which the Constitution of India came into force in 1950.
She recalled that during the Indian National Congress Lahore Session in 1929, January 26, 1930 was declared as Purna Swaraj Day, symbolizing India’s resolve for complete independence from British rule. To honour this historic declaration, India chose January 26 as its Republic Day in 1950.
Dr. Gatphoh emphasized the core values enshrined in the Constitution—justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity, and urged students, faculty, and staff to uphold these ideals in their academic pursuits and everyday lives.
As part of the celebrations, the University organized a patriotic rally through the streets of Shillong, symbolizing national unity and civic responsibility. The rally was led by the Vice Chancellor, Registrar, and Controller of Examinations, with enthusiastic participation from faculty members, staff, and students.
The rally received appreciation from local residents for spreading the message of patriotism and constitutional values.
The Republic Day observance reflected the ICFAI University Meghalaya’s continued commitment to nation-building and nurturing responsible citizens.
