SHILLONG : The National People’s Party (NPP) expects newly inducted Rajya Sabha member James P.K. Sangma to effectively raise Meghalaya’s long-pending demands in Parliament, party state working president Marcuise N. Marak said on Tuesday.
Speaking after Sangma took oath as a member of the Upper House on Monday, Marak said the new MP’s familiarity with Meghalaya’s issues and his communication skills would help him effectively represent the state’s concerns in Parliament.
“He knows our state very well and can express very well in Parliament. He doesn’t have any language problem — he speaks Hindi fluently and English also,” Marak said.
Marak said Parliament should be used as a platform to highlight and push issues that affect the people of Meghalaya.
“There are lots of issues in our state that need to be addressed. Issues like ILP implementation, recognition of Khasi and Garo languages, and many other burning matters need to be taken up in Parliament,” he added.
