SHILLONG : The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) North Khasi Hills Eastern Border Area on March 2, 2026, acted against a non-local man allegedly posing as a doctor and operating an illegal clinic at Umraling village under the jurisdiction of Mawlasnai Police Outpost.
The action followed complaints received from local residents about the activities of one Syed Nazir Shah, who reportedly claimed to be a qualified doctor and had set up a clinic without proper signboards, documentation, or valid credentials.
Under the leadership of Banjop Maring, President of KSU Eastern Border Area, and Augustin Shadap, Assistant Education Secretary, the KSU team immediately visited Umraling village to verify the matter. Upon inspection, they found that the individual was administering injections and IV drips to patients visiting the clinic.
The organisation alleged that the clinic conditions were highly unhygienic. According to KSU, the treatment room and kitchen were located in the same space and were in an extremely unclean state. Used injection syringes were reportedly kept inside the same room, raising serious health and safety concerns.
Following the verification, the KSU members immediately drove the alleged fake doctor out of the village and handed him over to the police at Mawlasnai Police Outpost for further action.
The KSU has urged village authorities and local leaders not to allow such individuals to operate, especially in matters concerning the life and health of the indigenous community.
The matter is expected to be investigated further by the police.
