Shillong : The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) Shillong Mihngi Circle on Tuesday sealed an alleged illegally constructed temple inside the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) office in Shillong and issued a one-week ultimatum to the authorities to demolish the structure.
Led by KSU CEC Assistant Organising Secretary Jeremiah Pohthmi, members of the union met with the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the CBI to raise concerns over the alleged illegal construction.
The meeting reportedly turned into a heated exchange between KSU members and CBI officials, but ended without any resolution. Following the discussion, KSU members sealed the temple in protest.
Speaking to the media, Pohthmi said the union had repeatedly raised the issue with CBI officials over the past few years and was earlier assured that no further construction of the temple would take place.
However, the KSU recently received information that construction had resumed. After conducting a spot inspection, the union found that the structure was nearly complete.
The KSU has now demanded that the concerned authorities demolish or remove the temple within one week.
The union also warned that if no action is taken within the stipulated period, it will launch stronger protests over the matter.
