SHILLONG : Langsning FC continued their dominant run in the 5th Meghalaya State League after thrashing Nangkiew Irat SC 6-1 at the SSA Stadium in Shillong on Monday.
The victory marked Langsning’s 10th consecutive win in the tournament, making them the only side to maintain a 100 percent winning record so far.
Samuel Phawa opened the scoring in the 18th minute before doubling the lead three minutes later. Morningstar Khongkiang added another in the 58th minute, while league top scorer Nelson Rymbai netted a hat-trick with goals in the 69th, 73rd and 87th minutes.
Nangkiew Irat’s lone goal came through Ronaldkydon L Nonglait in the 27th minute from a well-taken free-kick.
Langsning’s first goal came through a swift counterattack initiated by Kyrmenskhem Mukhim, who set up Nelson Rymbai before the latter assisted Samuel for an easy finish.
Samuel later scored his second with a low left-footed strike, taking his tally to 13 goals in the tournament and placing him joint second among the league’s highest scorers.
Although Ronaldkydon briefly reduced the deficit for Nangkiew Irat, Langsning completely dominated the second half with Morningstar and Nelson adding four more goals.
Nelson Rymbai now leads the scoring charts with 21 goals and has scored in every one of Langsning’s 10 matches.
In the other Group B match, Rymbai Shkenshynriah SC defeated Maram FC 4-2.
Hesmiki Rymbai opened the scoring in the 28th minute before Monush Lapang doubled the lead three minutes later. Skilful Tariang and Niphonghi Sumer also found the net in the second half.
For Maram FC, Santosh Teron and Jakchim K Marak scored one goal each.
Maram nearly had a dream start after finding the net in the opening minute, but the effort was ruled out for offside.
Shkenshynriah eventually took control of the match, with Hesmiki’s effort crossing the line despite a touch from goalkeeper Laspoll Ch Marak. Monush later capitalised on a rebound after his initial attempt hit the post.
Santosh Teron pulled one back for Maram with a long-range strike, but Shkenshynriah responded with two more goals before Jakchim added a late consolation.
Following the results, Langsning top Group B with nine points, Shkenshynriah are second with six points, Nangkiew Irat remain third with three points, while Maram FC are yet to register a point.
