RI-BHOI : Following repeated concerns raised by the Meghalaya Commercial Truck Owners and Drivers Association (MCTODA) over the shortage of parking and resting spaces for trucks in Ri-Bhoi, officials from the district administration, NHAI, NHIDCL and representatives of the MCTODA on Monday conducted a joint inspection from Jorabat to Umdihar to identify a suitable location for a truck lay-by.
The MCTODA said its preferred location is in front of the NHAI toll gate at Pahammawleiñ, on the Meghalaya side.
MCTODA Chairman Mosklandar Marngar said the issue requires urgent action and should not be delayed through repeated meetings and inspections.
“Our demand is simple — a truck parking facility should be established without further delay. It should not take more time,” Marngar said.
The MCTODA has urged the state government and the concerned authorities to take immediate steps to establish the truck lay-by, saying it would help improve safety for truck drivers as well as other road users.
The association said a designated parking and resting facility is necessary to address the difficulties faced by truckers and reduce the risks associated with heavy vehicles stopping along the highway.
