SHILLONG : The Meghalaya Legislative Assembly will hold its five-day Autumn Session from August 24 to August 28, after the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) unanimously approved the proposed calendar on Friday.
Assembly Speaker Thomas A. Sangma said the committee gave its unanimous approval to the schedule during the BAC meeting.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, Leader of the Opposition Mukul M. Sangma, Opposition Chief Whip Charles Pyngrope, Assembly Secretary Malthus S. Sangma, along with other committee members.
According to the approved calendar, three days have been earmarked for government business, while two days will be reserved for private members’ business.
Responding to concerns over the relatively short duration of the session, the Speaker assured that every legislator would be given sufficient opportunity to participate in discussions.
He said the allocation of time for members is always a key issue and affirmed that he would make every effort to ensure all MLAs get a chance to raise matters of public importance and express their views on the floor of the House.
The Autumn Session is expected to witness discussions on key government policies, legislative business, and issues concerning the state.
