SHILLONG, OCT 13: The Meghalaya Cabinet on Tuesday approved a minor amendment to the Meghalaya Cooperative Societies Act, 2015, and cleared the official list of holidays for 2027.
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, while briefing the media after the Cabinet meeting, said the amendment was made in accordance with instructions issued by the Government of India and the postal department.
Explaining the change, Sangma said the amendment involves replacing the term “registered post” with “speed post” in Section 21(1) of the Act.
He said the change was required because registered post has been replaced by speed post as the relevant postal service terminology, and the postal department had asked state governments to make corresponding amendments to their respective laws.
The Chief Minister described it as a minor change in nomenclature, with only one word being changed in the legislation.
The Cabinet also approved Meghalaya’s official holiday list for 2027. Sangma said there were no major changes to the list compared with the previous year.
He added that the government had completed the process of approving the holiday schedule for the coming year during Tuesday’s meeting.
