SHILLONG, JAN 13: Meghalaya Police have taken cognizance of a disturbing video circulating on social media platforms that shows an individual allegedly abusing civilians and demanding a bribe.
Deputy Inspector General (Eastern Range) V Rathore informed that although the person seen in the video does not appear to be a member of the Meghalaya Police, such behaviour is unacceptable and will be dealt with strictly.
“The person does not appear to be a member of Meghalaya Police. Nonetheless, we do not appreciate such misconduct and will take strict criminal as well as departmental action,” Rathore said in a social media post.
The DIG further stated that the Superintendent of Police (SP), East Khasi Hills, has ordered an official inquiry into the incident and directed that a detailed report be submitted by the evening of the same day.
Based on the findings of the investigation, the authorities will initiate appropriate criminal and departmental action against the individual involved.
Expressing regret over the incident, the senior police officer conveyed deep anguish and offered an apology to the public, reiterating that such acts of misconduct are unacceptable and will be addressed firmly.
