SHILLONG : The Meghalaya Cabinet has approved Rs 22.7 crore as land compensation for the acquisition of land required to construct a new 132 KV transmission line aimed at strengthening the state’s power transmission network.
The approval was given during a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Monday.
Briefing reporters after the meeting, Cabinet Minister Marcuise N Marak said the funds will be used to compensate landowners for land required along a 6.5-km stretch for the proposed transmission line.
The line will connect the existing 220/132 KV substation to the upcoming 132/33 KV, 2×50 MVA substation at Mawkhanu.
“The line to Mawkhanu substation runs for about 6.5 km. To execute this, the government needs to acquire certain plots of land. The Cabinet has approved compensation of Rs 22.7 crore for that purpose,” Marak said.
He explained that the land corridor required for power transmission infrastructure is referred to as the Right of Way (RoW).
The project is expected to support the expansion and strengthening of Meghalaya’s power transmission infrastructure and improve the reliability of the state’s electricity network.
