Shillong, Aug 28: Meghalaya won the final of the U-15 boys’ Subroto Cup football tournament with a 2-0 result against Uttar Pradesh in Bangalore today.
Properwell Ryntong scored a goal in each half of the 50-minute match, while Namebanlam added another late to seal the contest, which Meghalaya dominated from start to finish.
Meghalaya were represented in the U-15 boys’ category by Nongjri Presbyterian Secondary School of Ri-Bhoi, which won the state-level Subroto Cup last month.
This is the fourth national title for coach Jeffrey Warlarpih. It was under him that Meghalaya won the Khelo India Youth Games football title earlier this year, the Sub-Junior National Football Championship in 2019 and the U-17 boys’ Subroto Cup in 2013.
This is also the seventh time that a Meghalaya school has won a Subroto Cup title.
