SHILLONG : Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar has downplayed the ongoing protest by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), expressing confidence that the agitation will not influence the youth of Meghalaya.
Responding to a question on Monday about whether the protest could influence young voters in the state, Dhar said the issue falls under the jurisdiction of the Central Government and expressed confidence that it would be handled appropriately.
“Not at all because this is a central issue. I think the government will handle it properly at the central level,” he said.
On CJP’s demand for the removal of the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), Dhar said the Government of India should respond to the demand.
Asked whether young voters could be drawn towards CJP amid the ongoing agitation, Dhar said he was not worried about the youth of Meghalaya, whom he described as intelligent and capable of making their own decisions.
“I am not scared for the youth. I always love and respect the youth of Meghalaya because our youth are very intelligent and they know what to do in the future. As a government, we are with them,” Dhar said.
