SHILLONG : The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of Muster Roll Workers on Monday held a meeting following the non-payment of salaries to Muster Roll employees working under the Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department and the Public Works Department (PWD) Roads and Buildings wings.
Speaking after the meeting, JAC Adviser Bah K.L. Pariat said that the Finance Department had directed all government departments to implement an order issued in August 2020. However, according to the JAC, both the PHE Department and the PWD Roads and Buildings Departments have failed to implement the directive.
Pariat alleged that the failure to implement the Finance Department’s order has led to delays in the release of salaries for Muster Roll workers, whose wages have reportedly remained unpaid since March this year.
He informed that the JAC has already submitted written representations to the Chief Engineers of the PHE Department and the PWD (Roads and Buildings), urging them to immediately release the pending salaries of Muster Roll workers within the month of June.
The JAC also appealed to the concerned departments to implement the State Government’s order without further delay and ensure that all eligible workers receive their due wages and benefits.
The committee expressed concern over the hardships faced by workers and their families due to the delay in salary payments and called on the authorities to address the matter urgently.
