The Rotary Club of Orchid City Shillong felicitated five teachers with Nation Builder Award
in an event celebrating Teachers Day & World Literacy Day on 8
th of September 2022 in The Shillong Club. The programme started with welcome address by Rtn (Prof.) Devesh Walia, President of the club, where-in he emphasised that there is a need to build the nation with thehelp of committed teachers who devote their life for the same. In the present era, to build stronger nation is of utmost importance and NEP is trying to do so. Rtn Pubalee Bujarbaruah, Asst. Governor, RI District 3240, introduced TEACH initiative being implemented under Rotary International Literacy Mission. She stated that Rotary is involved in number of ways to help bridge the gap between the students, schools and the system.
The programme was followed by an impactfully motivating speech by the Chief Guest of the
programme Dr. B.D. R Tiwari, IAS, Commissioner and Secretary Department of Education,
Government of Meghalaya , where he stated the importance of education and the gap between
the teaching and requirements of the industries. He praised various activities and involvement
of rotarians to support the various government schemes and their applications in the rural areas.
Education is such a field wherein the support & contribution of Rotary and other such
organisations is required for successful translation & implementation of various government
initiatives. Further, he stated that skill-based education will help eradicate illiteracy and is an
important component of the National Education Policy 2020.
Shri. Rahul S. Chatterjee, the keynote speaker on world literacy day discussed the importance
of ability to think creatively is required so that we are able to work for growth and development
of the nation.
The award is conferred at club’s level after a detailed evaluation process which involves the
participation of students and the school principal. Ms. Achala Agrawala, Lady Keane Girl’s
HS School, Ms. June Kharkamni, St. Mary’s HS School, Mr. M.S. U. Mazumder, Islamia
Secondary School and Puja B Das, Lumparing Vidyapith Sec. School and Ms. Prachi Gupta,
K.V. NEHU were conferred with the ‘Nation Builder Award’.
Rtn Krishna Das Gupta, Literacy Chair of the club, congratulated the awardees for their
invaluable contribution towards nurturing young minds and thanked everyone for participating
and making the event successful.
