SHILLONG : National People’s Party (NPP) candidate Dr DRL Nonglait on Wednesday expressed confidence in his election prospects, saying the encouraging response from the public over the past five to six months has strengthened his belief that he will emerge victorious.
Speaking to reporters, Nonglait said he has adopted a “slow and steady” approach to his campaign, which has helped him connect with voters.
“I have kept a slow and steady pace, and the response has been quite positive. With the support of the people, I have no doubt that we will achieve our goals and come out successful,” he said.
Responding to questions about contesting against candidates from different professional backgrounds, Nonglait said elections are open to everyone and should not be viewed as a contest between professions.
“This is not a professional battle. Anyone can contest—whether a teacher, an administrator, or anyone else. It is certainly a challenge, and I will not take it lightly. But I am confident that we will succeed,” he said.
On the issue of obtaining the necessary clearance from North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Nonglait said the university’s Executive Council, which met on Tuesday, had approved the issuance of a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for him and another applicant.
“The permission has been granted. We are now waiting for the minutes of the meeting to be issued, after which the NOC will be formally released,” he added.
Nonglait said he remains focused on reaching out to voters and is optimistic that continued public support will translate into success in the upcoming election.
