SHILLONG : The strike by over 7,000 ASHA workers in Meghalaya demanding the release of their pending incentives continued for the seventh consecutive day, even as the state government assured that the release of funds is underway.
Health Minister Wailadmiki Shylla, speaking to reporters on Wednesday, said the delay occurred as the funds are to be released by the Central Government.
“There was a slight issue because the money is coming from the Centre. We are pushing for the amount to be released as soon as possible,” Shylla stated.
The minister informed that he had already discussed the matter with the Managing Director of the National Health Mission (NHM), who has assured that the ASHA workers would be updated on the progress.
“It has not come to my knowledge that they will be continuing with their strike, but we are pushing for the release of the amount,” the Health Minister added.
The ASHA workers have been protesting for the past seven days, seeking immediate payment of their long-pending incentives.
