RI-BHOI : The Pahamri-Oh Government Lower Primary School in Ri-Bhoi, one of the oldest schools in the area and currently in a severely dilapidated condition, has received a sanction of ₹70.18 lakh under Mission Education for the construction of a new school building.
The new building is aimed at providing a safer and more suitable learning environment for students, particularly protecting them from rain and strong winds that could pose a risk due to the poor condition of the existing structure.
The foundation stone for the new school building was laid on Tuesday by Nongpoh MLA Mayral Born Syiem as the chief guest. The programme was attended by Ri-Bhoi Deputy Commissioner Dr Abhishek Saini, DSEO R Shadap, SDSEO PP Yadav, shnong headman and School Management Committee (SMC) chairman NN Ryndong, along with teachers, parents, students, youths and other residents of the village.
On the occasion, the MLA also handed over a work order worth ₹6 lakh for the construction and improvement of the village Dorbar hall.
In addition, ₹30,000 was provided for improvement of the village footpath, while chairs, utensils and other essential items were also provided for the community.
The initiatives are expected to improve basic infrastructure and facilities for both the school and the local community.
